The idea of MyInfo came from GovTech Agency. It was pilot launched in Jan 2016 within the public service. It was then officially launched in May 2016. In 2017, MyInfo was implemented in the sign-up services of local banks like DBS, OCBC, Standard Chartered and UOB for individuals. 4. How does MyInfo benefit you and why you should use it?

The benefit of MyInfo is best illustrated using an everyday life example. Just imagine that you are on the verge of travelling and decides that you want to get yourself a credit card to chalk up some miles. You decide to approach the bank to apply for one. In order to apply for a credit card, the bank officer asks you to fill up a long application form with your details.

Depending on the bank that you visit, you either need to fill it up manually or fill in an e-form. Under usual circumstances, this will take you about 10-15 minutes. In some situations, if you fill in the wrong information (e.g. a typo), your application gets delayed. Furthermore, when filling up application forms, you might also need to upload original documentation (e.g. income statement) for the bank to verify them.

With MyInfo, all you need to do is to give consent to let the bank pick up your information from the MyInfo platform. All it takes is a few minutes for your form to be automatically filled. You don’t have to worry about making a typo mistake at all. Apart from the speed, you also enjoy the convenience of not having to go through the trouble of uploading documentation for verification.

But before you give access, make sure you look through the kind of information that is going to be extracted by the company. You should ensure that they do not retrieve information that they do not require. For example, if a company asks for your CPF information even though their service doesn’t require them to know your income or CPF savings information, you must not give them the right to retrieve your personal data.
