Blockchain project VeChain announced that it is working closely with the Fuji MARUMO Tea Garden, one of the historic tea businesses in Japan to prove traceability of tea products. The blockchain network uses an advanced IoT and traceability solution which will enable Fuji MARUMO’s customers to verify the origins of their tea products by using a smartphone.
How Will Customers Verify Produce?
Each product will come embedded with NFC chips on the package, which could be read by the smartphones to determine the authenticity of products. The first trial batch will begin with 100 products embedded with the chips, which will be served as a limited edition offering from Fuji Team. This trial will help in providing Proof of Concept for the broader implementations later.
VeChain will provide each product with a unique ID. Customers can trace and verify that their tea originates from the Fuji MARUMO Tea Garden by scanning the chips. They can also get additional information about the product, like the history of the tea garden. Users will also be able to access a verification certificate stored on the VeChainThor blockchain network.
Fuji Marumo Is Blockchain Curious
The Fuji MARUMO Tea Garden, owned by the Honda family is located in Shizuoka, Japan, an area that has spearheaded Japan’s love for tea since 1241. Honda has succeeded the title of tea master since the 1920s which denotes their skills in tea cultivation and blending.
Mohei Honda is now the in charge of the garden, who is also the president of Shizuoka’s 100-Tea Organization. With the VeChain traceability option, Fuji Tea will spread more detailed information about the Japanese tea culture. The tea garden will also demonstrate VeChain’s technology at the Japan Classy Culture Experience & Party held in Singapore.
